I love brie and brie loves me

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I really, really do. And I’m certain it has some strong feelings for me as well. Why else would it stick around? Mostly on my cushy midsection.

My favorite way to eat brie for a very long time was as follows (now, hold on tight for this extremely complicated recipe):

Slice of brie

Slice of strawberry

On a cracked pepper and olive oil Triscuit

Then, I went to Fredericksburg, and found Robert Rothschild’s Hot Pepper Chipotle Raspberry Sauce. OH-EM-GEE. I have been obsessed with it for weeks now. With my love brie of course, and some pita chips. Deeeelish. I have even given up dessert many nights to have this instead.

THEN, something wonderful in the top corner of Caroline’s blog caught my eye: brie and NUTELLA?!? Who doesn’t love nutella? Obviously I do. So I tried it. Not the panini but just some brie with nutella slathered on. LOVE it.

I’m off to go make out with my secret lover. Do you have any fun ways (recipes people) in which…ehm, we can enjoy each other?

P.S. Don’t forget about the FroliCat giveaway. You don’t want to miss the chance if you have a furbaby at home.

P.P.S. If you haven’t already, please consider joining Volunteer – Blog It On.

A few of the gazillion pictures from the weekend:

< guava mojitos outside at a cute tapas place >

< even the birdies were out enjoying the weather >

< is she not the cutest?? >

< what handsome men! >

< daddy gettin his worship on >

< my amazing mom >

< love my sari! >

And I got my krispe kreme! 3 of them in fact. FAT. ASS.

We also just happened to be driving by some garage and estate sales Saturday afternoon. We spent a whopping $16 bucks and got a bazillion things, including a fun purse and necklace and a bunch of old children’s books. (Can you say CARE BEARS!).

My mom cooked a TON. I wish I was as fantastic as she is in the kitchen. Then we all ate on the floor with banana leaves. Traditional village style.

Sigh. I am so over my job and this week already. Bear comes home on Thursday instead of Friday! Whoo! (We consultants lead a sad life – I am thrilled I get 4 nights with my bf instead of just the usual 3). Did I mention sigh?

Hope you all had a painfree Monday!

Heading out to San Antone and Austin for the weekend to spend some time with the most awesome parents!

Tomorrow is Momma Bear‘s 50th birthday! She is the cutest and sweetest woman ever. I adore her.

Brother Bear (yes I know how cheesy that is) will also be in town on Spring Break from JHU. Future doctor ladies, and a hottie to boot.

Can’t wait to play with my camera and Papa Bear‘s lenses. Only wish we could take the furbabies because the Grand Bears love them so.

Then it’s off to my hometown, aka the greatest place in the world, AUSTIN. A religious ceremony in the morning at home (yes even though I haven’t lived with my parents for 3 years, it’s always home) and shopping for some jeans in the afternoon at Hem because I lost another pound! Loving these cropped skinnies:

…then it’s BFF time!! WHOO! (I keep linking your blog woman – write sumtin.)

But for now, all I can think about is the feast I’m having tonight:

Hell yeah. Three of each. OINK OINK!

Have a great weekend y’all!

P.S. Here’s some random things I’ve spotted that made me smile, a la Hope Chella style:

annoyance and awards

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Can I vent?

Course you can, Baby G*. It’s yo blog.

Great! So it turns out that shit that bothers me in real life, bothers me in the blogging world, too. Obviously this is also real life, but yaknowwhatimean. I figure if I’m annoyed with the blogging world, the blogging world is gonna hear bout it. And If you think I’m talkin about you, I probably am. Check yo self.

* Folks who won’t respond. If someone comments or asks a question or something – reciprocate, people. It’s like when people don’t call/email/text back. Why?

* Folks who don’t do what they say they are going to. Um, hello. If you tell me you’re going to be there, be there. If you tell me you’ll do something, do it. Volunteer – Blog It On. If one of my lovely readers is so generously awesome to post about the event they are so generously and awesomely participating in and you think it’s “such a generous and awesome idea and am totally gonna do it”….come over and DO IT. Because you said you would. That’s how life works.

* Folks who are only motivated by money or their own benefit. I had one blogger ask me for money to put up a post about Volunteer – Blog It On. It’s a volunteer event. Doesn’t that make it sorta altruistic? Yes, please be a good Samaritan and spread the word about a selfless event so people will believe YOU are selfless….for money. Course there were those bloggers that never even responded to my emails. And to you, I say this – Yes, I know you are busy. Yes, I know you have like 713,937 hits a day. But think of the change YOU could have stimulated.

Bear once made me promise, as I jumped up and down after my very first ever comment from Giovanna, that I would always read every single comment and respond. I’ve kept that promise and always plan to. And I sure as hell will respond to emails that ask me to publicize a volunteer event when I too get 713,937 hits a day.

This disenchantment was immediately discussed with my coach/cheerleader (he’s got some fine legs).

Bear then told me my blog was his favorite website ever (course it is, he designed it) and then reminded me of why I was blogging. Yes, I am a go-getter and I want crazy theories that pop into my head at 11:30 at night to become worldwide movements…but I’m also here to just send my thoughts out into the world. Making friends is just an added bonus.

But if I have 3 followers and Bear and I are the only that actually volunteer on May 1, then so be it. I’ll be glad that I was the champion for a change that led to at least one person or animal or tree somewhere being helped.

the end.

Now. People who make me happy:

Madeleine at http://madtab7.blogspot.com/

and

Kayla at http://senseofstyleiseternal.blogspot.com/

…gave me these awards:

THANK YOU!! You two are fabulous and your blogs and comments make me oh-so-happy!

I also got this from Bear today:

< He made it! So silly. >

And THANK YOU to all the wonderful ladies who are so generous and awesome.

“One act of beneficence, one act of real usefulness, is worth all the abstract sentiment in the world.” – Ann Radcliffe

*Baby G – My parents used to work together and their  coworkers called them Mr. and Mrs. G. I was Baby G when I visited. Oh and because I invented these. Say what??

For Bear

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Everyone else might want to look away for the sheer cheesiness factor.

Anyone else become super productive at work when you’re wearing something that makes you happy? I mean so productive you forget to send your boyfriend love pictures you took way back in the morning? Yeah, me too.

I’ve been a huge fan of this nude shimmery top ever since I picked it up for like $5 at H&M a year ago (it’s got adorable buttons and puffy shoulders, how could I not be?). And I finally wore this blingy necklace that I got at the flea market a couple months ago for a buck.

Friday needs to hurry up.

FroliCat Giveaway

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Yeehaw! Time for another giveaway…

We bought the FroliCat online at Amazon a few weeks ago because someone – ahem, Shere Khan – is a bit of a tubbers and needed some extra exercise (seriously, girl likes to SLEEP and EAT).

We love it because:

1) Push a button and off it goes for 15 minutes! Just moves the laser around like you would, except you don’t have to. (NO idea where she gets her lazy genes from yo). Can even move the reflector up or down to adjust it so it’s not on the wall….or the TV.

2) You can turn off the automatic mode and use it like a regular laser. Ya know, when you’re not being lazy and want to actually play WITH your cat not just distract her. This is perfect because we can play with both Shere Khan and Bond at the same time. He’s a gentleman and would never dream of intruding on her toy while she’s playing alone. And unlike tiny laser pens, it’s so much more comfortable to use and you don’t have to hold down a button.

3) When she wakes us up at 5 am with nose kissies and toe pounces, we stumble into the living room, push the aforementioned button and she is immediately engaged. And we get to go back to sleep. (Don’t look at me like that, you don’t get up at 5 either).

When I wrote the the nice folks at the PR department to express our love, they generously offered a FREE FroliCat Bolt Laser Toy for one lucky reader!

It’s great item for both cats and dogs (who knew? I thought only kitties were into the laser pointers but I’ve been corrected a lot recently). You and your furbabies will love it. You can thank me later.

How to enter:

1) Become a follower on the right with Google Friend Connect (leave a comment)

2) Re-blog or tweet about the giveaway (leave a comment for each instance)

3) Tell me what crazy thing your furbaby does in a comment below (can have multiple entries for multiple furbabies!)

4) Join the ‘Volunteer – Blog It On’ campaign for 2 entries (join, leave a comment and I’ll make sure to count it 2x – no need to comment twice)! Yes, I know it’s a shameless plug, but it’s for volunteering so it’s allowed. And because it’s for volunteering you are bound by pinky swears to participate. Plus, you wouldn’t want to deny the community of your service would you?

Giveaway ends: April 3rd at 5 pm CST

Shot Saturday

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Saturday here was cold and rainy. A perfect day to stay in our pajamas all day. Which we did.

We started with cereal and ‘Time Traveler’s Wife’ (I bawled uncontrollably).

Quick trip to Blockbuster, then settled down with some grilled cheese sandwiches, cookies and popcorn. We also brought out a few beers and got to tasting.

First was ‘Up In The Air’. I can’t believe I spend so much time in airports…especially the St. Louis Airport….and I never got to run into ol’ George. Sadness.

< the furbabies mostly just slept >

Then, and this is a testament to just how freakin awesome of a boyfriend Bear is, we watched ‘New Moon’. Still fairly cheesy but so much better than ‘Twilight’. We decided we needed to make a shot game out of it. We took a shot every time something abnormal occurred. We got drunk.

< it really does >

Took a hot bath….then put my pjs back on (fancy bball shorts, of course).

We were gonna watch ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ but a couple episodes of ‘Mad About You’ was all we could muster before bed.

A very good day.
