wedding 1 of 5

Monday, June 28th, 2010

We had 5 more weddings to attend by the end of the year. Now there’s just 4 more. Even one ON New Year’s Eve!

I love weddings. Love how they bring people together, love the love, and all the shimmery magic.

Two of my highschool friends (yup, been together since 9th grade) got married this weekend and it was a crazy, fun reunion. And the bride did an amazing job with the decorations, details and theme:

< outfit worn to dinner the night before – Old Navy tank top, couple bucks; skirt found at Buffalo Exchange for $4; and necklace found at estate sale >

< Dress by BNX, bought at Second Time Around Consignment for about $40; Mia shoes at DSW for about $30; bag found at garage sale for $1 or so; indian bracelets from my mom; ring from Aldo from Bear as a present; belt bought too long ago to remember >

Love the Grecian flow of the dress, it was perfect for a summer wedding. I gave it a little extra shape with the belt but it was mostly hidden with the flows which I loved. It had a little bit of detail at the chest but I played it up with all the glittery accessories.

My favorite ring – Bear remembered I had liked it and went back for it in our early days of dating.  <3

golden boy

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

There is one boy who never ceases to amaze me…

Who sets my heart a flutter every time I get a sight of him….

that cutie patootie Michael Kors.

I carry him with me everywhere (seriously, I rarely switch out my humongo purse).

Today, while looking for a dress to wear to a wedding reception this weekend…highschool friends, must impress…..I fell into MK’s trap.

But he is always so good to me. Especially when I visit him at the outlet mall. (These were each $9.99!)

…well at least I didn’t buy more gold accessories this time. Seriously, it’s bad. I’ll have to show you pictures of that soon.

P.S. I have been craving a gold skirt since I saw Ali in one at the InStyle photo shoot. And now I have one. I rule!

leftovers

Monday, June 21st, 2010

For Bear’s 3rd Birthday/Father’s Day weekend we ate too much and now have a fridge full of takeout boxes.

First, the Etsy Craft party which was a ton of fun and had an endless supply of delicious food. I made Peanut Butter Cupcakes with Chocolate Ganache

but I’m mad at myself because I forgot to put in the mini peanut butter cups in the middle! Grr.

Didn’t take a lot of pictures AT the party because I was too busy making cute things. But I did get pictures of my outfit before I left:

< shoes are Baker’s but I got them at Savers for $10; dress from Old Navy; belt  $2.50, thrifted; necklace from garage or estate sale; ring from F21, $4.50 >

….then a weekend full of

Fathers

homemade salsa

playing with the furbabies

and shopping for more hangers. Oops.

bear’s 2nd & 3rd birthday weekends

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Can’t believe the weekend is already here again. I spent the day thrifting and got some fun finds I can’t wait to share with you all.

Tomorrow is the Etsy Craft Party and I’m super excited. I will be getting up early to bake something yummy to take….before my first day of shadowing.

Forgot to post these pictures from last weekend, which was Bear’s 2nd Birthday Weekend. I arranged for his friends to surprise him all weekend long, some all the way from Houston and Dallas. No other photos because we were drinking too heavily the rest of the weekend to take the camera down to good ole 6th.

This weekend we’ll be spending time with both sets of parents (3rd Birthday Weekend + Father’s Day!). But we’re going to dedicate Saturday morning (Bear’s ACTUAL birthday) to garage sales!

Didn’t take many pictures but hopefully you can sorta make out the awesome ruffle detail on the top I got from…wait for it…Kohl’s! For about $6 on a recent trip with my mom. Skirt is from Nordstrom Rack, $15 – fun and flower-dy bubble skirt. Shoes are from a year or so ago (Approx $30 from DSW) and I haven’t worn them nearly as much I should considering they are one of my more “expensive” pairs.

Have a great Father’s Day weekend, y’all!

Austin’s Newest Petsitter

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

You’re lookin at her!

I was planning on opening my own petsitting business, especially since the apartments I live in are part of 8 other apartments all on the same road and are extremely pet friendly. Then I found out someone else had that genius idea years ago. Figured if I can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!

So I emailed Momma Dog’s Pet Sit telling them this and it turned out they were in desperate need of a replacement, as well as someone to handle the finances (well guess who has a Finance degree!) and scheduling. One very informal “interview” in my yoga attire and ta-da!

I’ve also emailed a few animal trainers in Austin to see if they will take me on as an apprenticeship while I get my national certification and so far one company has gotten back to me.

Yeehaw!

Can’t wait to start down this path and see if it’s right for me…and hopefully learn a lot along the way.

I pretty much couldn’t be doing something less corporate…and I’m so excited.

Product Review: CoverGirl Blast & got2b Smooth Operator

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Joined Bzz Agent awhile back and they sent me some products to review.

First the got2b Smooth Operator:

It’s a ‘Smoothing Lustre Lotion’. I combed it through my towel dried hair and the sample they had given was quite large so I didn’t use all of it. It smelled great and made my hair soft and somewhat shiny. But I wouldn’t say that it did much for the frizz or smoothing of my hair…not past the initial few hours. I wouldn’t buy it because I tend to not use a lot of products in my hair and hate the idea of putting something in and weighing it down.

Second, the CoverGirl ‘Smoky Shadow Blast’ duo. I was able to choose colors and chose the ‘Citrus Flair’ combo (shown left).

I did that because I don’t really have any green eyeshadow that color in my collection. Now I realize with good reason. While the concept is great – combine the two colors so all you have to do fully cover your eyelid with one side (has a wide tip) and then use the other (smaller curved tip) to do the liner/shadow – it didn’t look right on my skin at all. I’m sure another color would have looked much better and it really is an easy to-do. However, I’m not the greatest fan of any eyeshadow but MAC powder so I don’t think I”d ever get it. And especially not in the color.

CoverGirl and Bzz Agent also sent me the ‘Shine Blast’ lipgloss.

I chose the color ‘Smolder’ because I have been looking for something nude. However, what I got was something that didn’t look anything like the color online. In reality the color was not a dark nude, but rather a very shimmery pale color that on my lips only shows up as glossy. Fail. However, I do like the color and I love the applicator tip which is specially designed to cover your your lips. Just wish the colors were less shimmery gloss and had more color to them.

Now I’m off to a job interview for something super fun. Fingers crossed…

rodarte for target

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Finally wore the skirt I bought way back when and Bear took pictures for me out on our fantastic new patio:

< Rodarte for Target skirt (on sale, $20 bucks), Old Navy silk top (couple bucks), necklace (still can’t remember where/when it’s from), ring (ditto), shoes ($2 or so, thrifted from a store in Houston), marc by marc jacobs sunglasses ($98 at Nordstrom), belt from Urban Out fitters ($10) >

Got a few compliments on the skirt so I’m glad I went out of my style comfort zone to buy it. And the heels were super comfy for a full day of meeting some awesome local bloggers.

Austin has changed so much since I last lived here. 2nd street is a whole different world now…can’t wait to explore my hometown with new eyes! Gonna start with the bar & grill that’s stumbling distance from our place tonight…
