Pound for Pound

Bear and I pledged to lose weight (him 4, me 5) with the Pound for Pound challenge (http://www.pfpchallenge.com/).

We’re both really excited about something I read in Marie Claire recently (which happens to be my absolutely favorite magazine) – there was an article about two women and one only exercised and  one only changed her diet. The one who changed her diet lost 10 pounds without any added exercise. She used the Mayo Clinic Diet (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mayo-clinic-diet/MY01040).

Of course I looked this up and found a ton of information regarding the program (the basic premise is that I eat only 1200 calories and keep the servings of each food group strictly regulated within those calories), how to outline a plan and recipes that I’m super eager to try. The latter is quite surprising since this girl wanted to use her dishwasher for her extra shoes till the boy came along.

I am going to write out a schedule, go grocery shopping, plan out meals and hopefully the pounds will fall away! I’ve never been overweight but the size I am now is the largest I’ve ever been and it’s taken a toll on me. Being hypoglycemic is hard because my blood sugar falls so fast and I don’t always have the healthiest solution nearby.

I can’t wait to see some visible changes. Plus I’m hoping that learning about servings and the different foods, along with how to make some (hopefully) yummy dishes will be knowledge that will help me keep my consumption healthy in the future.

In addition, I’m all about getting back into using my pedometer like a geek and tracking my steps and hitting the goals necessary to help lose pounds through walking as well. We should all be walking about 10,000 steps a day (about 5 miles) to stay healthy (http://walking.about.com/cs/measure/a/locke122004.htm). Or at least wearing a pedometer to see where your personal baseline is for an average day. But then adding 2,000 more means about 100-150 calories and means more weight loss! My goal will be 10,000 daily at first but 12,000 (at least) soon after. I plan to wear the pedometer and then just walk the rest to make up the amount every evening on the treadmill.

So much useful information/tools on the web! I can’t wait to start!

Ernesto Moreira

We recently visited the Houston Museum of Natural Science (http://www.hmns.org/) to see the Faberge Egg exhibit (http://www.hmns.org/exhibits/special_exhibits/faberge.asp), which included this amazing tiara. The tiara has hundreds of diamonds and belonged to the Empress Josephine. Very cool exhibit.

While we were at the museum we stopped by the Smith Gem Vault (http://www.hmns.org/exhibits/permanent_exhibits/smith_gem_vault.asp) and saw some gorgeous and outrageously large pieces by Ernesto Moreira.
I am so in love with his stuff that I had to look him up: http://www.ernestomoreira.com/
How beautiful is this Alianza collection?

TGIF!

It hasn’t been an exceptionally hard week (just the first after vacation) but can’t wait till 5 anyway.
Plans for the weekend:

I bought Bear this book for Christmas -

Shopping for them was loads of fun for a Type A list-checker-offer like me but I’m actually enjoying drinking them as well. Go figure. I’m typically a liquor gal (whiskey please!) and of late, since our anniversary trip to Napa, a huge wine lover. But so far I’ve taken a liking to most of the beers we’ve tried and am excited to taste them all. I’m glad we’ve found something that makes us both happy – our mutual desire to always be experiencing and learning and his love for beer. Goal for the weekend is to cross at least a few more off the list.
Then a trip to San Antonio for Bear’s friend’s baby shower. Will be meeting his family’s close friends. Yeep!
Finally, over the vacation we watched all 6 Star Wars movies (again, my need for knowledge and his geek quota were met) and I think we’re going to try to do Lord of the Rings this weekend. I’m sure this will bring back my Orlando Bloom obsession. Yum!
Happy Friday!

Cupcake love

From one of my fave sites, ‘Postcards From Yo Momma’:

How to Know When You’ve Found “The One”

you should marry someone not because you think there isn’t anyone else out there, but because you love THAT person. like, if you had a cupcake, you would want to share it with him.

3rd Times The Charm…maybe.

Although blogging consistently is not my modus operandi (I’ve tried in the past to post every single day about something new I did or saw or ate or whatever that day and that failed. Twice.), here’s one woman who doesn’t fail to post every day:
The Daily Nail
How in the world anyone has time to post, much less PAINT THEIR NAILS EVERY SINGLE DAY is beyond me, but I’m glad she does. It’s so entertaining!

My newfound desire to blog has been inspired mostly by two fantastic women who I came across through Google Reader (love it by the way, if you aren’t using it you should be!):
A Cup of Jo
Color Me Katie

Their creativity and spirit, especially Katie’s, has driven me to give blogging one more try and to really challenge my creative side. That and Bear seems to think I have wonderful things to say. But that’s just because he loves me and has to listen to them anyway.
