Mad About You

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Bear and I both grew up loving the show Mad About You. We’ve started re-watching all the episodes and it’s unbelievable how much we relate to them.

We just saw the episode ‘Same Time, Next Week’ where Paul is filming a movie and only home on the weekends and it was identical to our life – from the idea of having to re-adjust to someone in the same bed to sleeping on the phone together when not in the same bed, and the small arguments that arise from having to communicate long distance.

It is just fabulous, adorable and witty and I’m glad we re-found it.

Jamie: “Do you know how long I waited for you? My mother used to say I was too picky, or afraid of commitment….But the truth is, I was just looking for you. Do you know how close I came to being a narrow, cold, mistrustful woman? But you have given me a life so big and full and good… and fun! I don’t even know what we do, really, besides clean up and complain and wish we were sleeping, but with you, somehow… fun.”

Live Wide – Experiences

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Living wide is mostly about experiences. Try and do and see and eat and experience anything and everything as much as possible, as often as possible, and to the absolute.

I have a huge, ongoing list I’ve kept since middle school of things I wanted to do and places I wanted to go before I died. It’s exciting to read and remember all the ones that are checked off as well as the ones I have yet to cross out.

The top experiences of my life:
Skydiving - Sophomore year of college, a week after my first boyfriend and I broke up. I felt I needed to start living up to my motto. This was followed by my first cigarette, my first time smoking hookah, my first drunken escapade and my first random makeout session with a strange boy (not all in the same night!). Wrong order? Perhaps. But the feeling of jumping out of a plane is indescribable and life-altering. In a very, very good way.

Falling in love – By far the coolest, and scariest thing, I’ve ever done..

Kickboxing, Self-Defense – Even though I am still petrified of any encounter in which I may have to remember these moves, I was at my peak physically and felt like an incredibly strong woman during these classes and I miss them.

Raising Lions – What started as a need to get back to myself (aka, living wide) after a break-up from my first but not nearly true love, turned into one of the coolest stories of my life. Not only did I get to help raise lion cubs in South Africa, alone for 3 weeks from family and friends and bf; I also met some amazing people and held some big snakes, got to cuddle with a cheetah as well as the lions and rode an elephant.
Lions are unforgiving and selfish and magnificent. And the fact that these white lions are being decimated is a tragedy. I’m glad I could do a small part.

Adopting Bond - A semi-spontaneous decision that I questioned for a few brief moments before I took him home. I’m eternally grateful that I found him out of all the kitties. He is my greatest achievement.

Can’t wait to add more…

Love Notes

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

When we were first dating, Bear started leaving me little love notes everywhere for me to find while he traveled. We are both consultants and have rarely spent weekdays together. This is our small way of being with each other during the week.
Just when I was thinking we hadn’t left each other notes in awhile and was planning my comeback, I found these hidden throughout my luggage this week!:

Sigh.

Elderly couples make my heart smile

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

From the website, “Gives Me Hope”:

I was at the mall the other day when I saw an old couple sitting together. The man looked over at the woman and said,

“Jane, we did it. We grew old together.”

The look in her eyes GMH.

Cupcake love

From one of my fave sites, ‘Postcards From Yo Momma’:

How to Know When You’ve Found “The One”

you should marry someone not because you think there isn’t anyone else out there, but because you love THAT person. like, if you had a cupcake, you would want to share it with him.

My great loves:

Bond (aka, 007) – sweetest kitty in the world. he loves to climb up for booty hugs and to slurp on momma’s ears.

Shere Khan –  tiny face and huge heart. purrs like no other and snores to boot!

Bear – my best friend.

Mommy and Daddy – my inspirations. this is their honeymoon over 25 years ago and it’s my favorite picture of all time.
