too cool for school

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

The weather hasn’t stopped being annoying. So I’m doing the long-sleeves with shorts thing.  A boy in middle or highschool once told me he thought it was sexy when a girl wore long sleeves and shorts. This one is for you, Boy-I-Can’t-Remember.

Fun Fact: I wasn’t cool enough to actually wear shorts when I was IN school…I had Chicken Legs. And I was called Chicken Legs. Thanks for the calves, Kickboxer Sandhya.

Sweater :: Old Navy
Shorts :: Calvin Klein (so comfy! and versatile pattern)
Shoes :: From India
Necklace :: Vintage
Purse :: Michael Kors
Sunglasses :: Prada

This ‘statement necklace’ was something 10-year-old Sandhya picked up at a garage sale. Yes, even then, that’s what I was doing. Too bad it wasn’t really trendy until 17 or so years later.

Oh, what’s that you spy? A tattoo?

Another thing I was never cool enough for…until now it seems. Honestly, I’ve always wanted one and just been terrified of the pain. I finally found a reason that was worth it.

This one’s for you, Trigger.

just blo me

Thank you all for your support with our loss and for understanding my break from the blog. The grief still punches me in the stomach many times a day and it takes me a moment (or hour) to recover but we are healing slowly. We miss him and love Trigger every moment of every day and we appreciate the love from you all.

Life however doesn’t take too kindly to breaks and while we gave ourselves a week or two, it came back at us full speed. My business is busier than ever (and it’s exciting!) and I’ve been spending a lot of my time volunteering at the shelter (we currently have 3 very cute foster kitties stinking up our guest bathroom in case anyone is interested) and then of course planning the wedding. The house hunt was on hold for awhile but we’re back at it and while we’re being picky, we know we’ll find the right one for us and all furbabies present and future.

I got an email the other day asking if I wanted to attend a special event at Blo Austin, the latest location of a very fun and practical concept of salons – no cut, no color. Just a shampoo and a fun style. I immediately said yes because I needed it to pull me out of my ponytail and smelly animal clothes funk and I’m so glad I did.

The salon is just plain adorable and all the ladies (and guys) are the sweetest. They gave me a ‘Hair Menu’ to look through and I chose the ‘Red Carpet’ look. Ashanti was sweet and did a great job on my blowout!

Before (forgive the unwashed, unstyled hobo look):

After…blown away! (sorry couldn’t resist):

Blo also gave me a bag full of goodies like yoga classes and coupons for future blowouts (in case anyone is interested!) and a trial of the hairspray they used, Aerogel, which is incredibly light and soft. And some fun pink cotton candy – I was tickled pink! Seriously, I must quit with the puns. I blame the champagne. Kidding. Don’t drink and drive, kids.

But DO go out and get your hair did at Blo – they are doing $21 blowouts tomorrow on their opening day! They also offer updos and birthday or bachelorette parties and even come out for events to you. They have locations all over Cali, Florida and TX.

This inspired some much delayed outfits posts:

Skirt, Shoes, Bangles, Belt, Purse: All thrifted and around a couple bucks or less each. Top: Old Navy, also a couple bucks. My whole outfit was like $8-10 I just realized. Score!

Have a blessed weekend!

This is my second post with the same title and how I wish I could go back in time to the first one and stay there.

Our baby boy, Trigger, passed away on Monday at 8 1/2 months old.

We are in shock and grieving and I don’t really know what to do with myself. I’ve spent hours writing to him and documenting everything so I don’t forget.

I miss him.

Pawsitive

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Yes, we decided on a name…for real this time! PawsitiveDog Training and Pet Care. The website will is www.pawsitiveaustin.com and I LOVE the site thanks to my fabulous, super-talented boyfriend.

Also, my generous friend Sarah Barnes of Hartshorne Photography offered to take pictures for the site for me. There’s a bunch on the website and a bunch more on the Facebook page here. I would love it if you’d go and “like” the page!

Other than getting everything up and running, we’ve spent some time doing some holiday mingling and eating, including the fabulous Armadillo Bazaar put on by my very talented friend Elia. Can’t wait to show you the jewelry her man is making me!

Very low-key Christmas and New Year’s this year – only a few decorations and no tree since we bought ourselves bikes earlier in November.

Been too busy to take pictures of really anything but my clothes in a hasty few minutes before running out.

Here are a couple outfits:

Shorts – free – Clothing Swap; Tights – $4 – Gap Outlet; Shoes – $20 – Aldo Outlet; Top – $5 – Gap; Bracelet – free – Clothing Swap; Ring – ?? – ??; Headband – $4 – H&M or F21

Dress – $15 – Windsor outlet; Tights – $4 – Gap Outlet; Boots – $?? – Nine West Outlet; Jacket – $30 – JCrew Outlet; Ring – $4 – F21; Bracelets – various

Decided it was too warm (darn Texas weather) and put on this red jacket ($20 or so; Old Navy) instead. Also, I painted my nails to match my festive toenails: Sephora for OPI’s Personal Shopper and then covered it with Only Gold For Me Glitter Topcoat.

Off for a night of wine and video games!

P.S. How cute is this email that Bear’s dad sent me? FYI, Beti means daughter and PB stands for Papa Bear which is what I call his dad. His mom is obviously Mama Bear.:

Howdy y’all!

Been busy trying to get my dog training certification completed as well as my own business off the ground….among other things. But here are some pictures from the past couple weeks.

Out shooting pictures for my street style blog, The Style Co-Op:

Drapey shirt from Gap, $8

*Fun story about necklace - I bought this way back in HS at a garage sale because I wanted to be thrifty and trendy and be different and I hadn’t really worn it till this day. Rose saw it when she came over and pointed it out as awesome to me (which it is). Guess I just had to grow into my awesomeness.

Playing hide-and-seek with my Godfurbaby, Ember:

Thrifting with my girl Elia:

Old Navy tank; Skirt from Urban Outfitters, $10

Lounging with my beautiful Shere Khan:

Dressing up Trigger to hand out candy last night (Bear and I went as Hawaiian Punch on Saturday – I was a hula girl and he was a boxer):

And generally being fat:

Happy Monday!

Meet Momma’s Personal Weapon: Trigger.

He’s not much now, we know. In fact he resembles a fuzzy teddy bear according to the masses of cooing women (can ya blame them?). But one day….watch out! Momma brag – He’s a purebred long-haired German Shepherd – and comes from one of the strongest champion lines in the U.S..

We, along with the kitties are adjusting the addition of our newest furbaby and my first ever dog. Wowza.

We had ourselves a picnic (indoors) yesterday with all of them to celebrate Rani, Bear’s beautiful dog, who passed away a few years ago:

Wore my mom’s old skirt with my new chambray shirt to ward off the chills from the rain. So comfy! I think I might also turn this into the occasional dress.

Hope you all had a fabulous Labor Day Weekend!

necessary purchase #2 and a freebie

Monday, August 30th, 2010

I spent all day Saturday shopping and running errands and hadn’t bought a single thing, until I just happened to stop into American Apparel and was about to walk out when I saw the Le Sac dress. It was only $19 plus 10% off (and it’s like a million dresses in one!) so I had to get it even though it was not on my list. So glad I kept a few slots open for whatever-might-come-my way.

Here are a few of the ways to wear it (excuse the headless shots – makeup and hair wasn’t on my to-do list today):

Also, I got a dress, 4 shirts, a pair of shorts for the boy and a shirt for him as well with a giftcard from Old Navy for under $50. Love that store. The best part is that one of those shirts I bought was my chambray shirt and it doesn’t count as a purchase!! Whoo!

2 more weeks with 3 purchases left. I think with our newest furbaby coming home on Wednesday, I may be too occupied to go shopping. Let’s hope.
