What’s a Sandhya?

What’s a Sandhya?

It’s my name, obviously. I’m Indian and in Sanskrit it means a religious time of the day. It’s very hard to pronounce because many languages don’t have the sounds to do so, but it’s kinda like this: Sun-dth-yuh.

No, you can’t call me Sandy.

Who are you?

I’m a Texan and a Longhorn. I live with the love of my life and two adoring kitties in Austin (the greatest city in the world). I never pay full price for anything and I love to shop – anywhere, anytime. I live for chocolate, country music and books. My parents are two of my greatest friends. Animals, lists and miniature-sized anythings make me giddy.

Who are these super cool people you’re always talkin bout?

Check out this post for a list of characters.

Why does your finger look all funk-a-ma-junk in your picture?

I have double-jointed knuckles in all my fingers. Which sounds really cool but just makes my hands look all witch-like and funk-a-ma-junk.

Ok, cool quote and all…but what is ‘livin wide’?

‘Live Wide’ is my motto. My mantra, inspiration and my go-to tombstone epitaph. ‘She lived wide’. Except I’m Hindu and we don’t have tombstones.

When I read the quote by Diane Ackerman, I immediately thought…OK, so I have to live my life to the fullest, to the utmost…I have to live it wide.

(My AIM screen name used to be W I live DE. Like live IN wide. Like those old word puzzles? I know, I’m brilliant.)

Yes, it’s ‘carpe diem’ and ‘seize the moment’ but it’s more about having a freakin’ awesome story to tell at the end of it all. Being able to say ‘I’ve been there’ or ‘I’ve tried that’.

So get started.

“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways – chocolate in one hand, martini in the other – body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOOHOO, what a ride!!” – Unknown
